apple study

apple study
This painting marks the start of fifty days of painting in a theme of "home." It seemed good to begin with a crisp Washington apple - classic imagery in a fundamental approach. Painted from life, the resulting 6 x 9 watercolor resembles an oil painting. It has the transparency, rich glowing colors of oil glazes, and light-over-dark background (opacity) usually in oil. I painted it by OttLite (full-spectrum light) and it looks great in daylight or incandescent lights. Image area is 6 x 9 inches, with an additional quarter inch of unpainted border with deckles top and right, soft edges bottom and left. Artwork is sold unframed.
