silk templates

Here are some examples of paper templates and how they look transfered to silk and then completely dyed. The key to a good template is simplicity and fairly large closed shapes. shapes can be larger than those pictured here. Think outlines...like the leading around stained glass.


Notice the drawing in black marker on paper below the silk has been traced with gutta (colored lines) onto silk.

Here is the same silk scarf as above now with dye (and salt to add effect as it dries). the wavy border creates a finished edge, a contrasting color/element, and makes dying the edges easier.
