artesian well mosaic

public artwork involving the public

Here below I'm making my mosaic fish as a guest artist - one of the public participants.

Scheduled during Olympia's spring Artswalk, there was a great turn out. The mosaic fish are being adhered to concrete structures around a community artesian spring downtown Olympia between 4th and 5th Avenues and Adams and Jeffereson Streets.

My twin nephews and I visited the artist, Jennifer Kuhns at work a few days later to see the installation process. Faithfully braving the rain (under a blue tarp) she adhered the first few fish to a concrete column.

I observed that mosaic done this way can be quickly learned by participants. Except that glass can be sharp, it is a good medium for involving the public in creating artwork.
