8 Studies An up-close view of Without Walls (home and security challenged and revealed through patterns of ground-nesting birds) has led me to these eight drawing studies of the metaphor of hatching. While reading about the development and hatching of a bird embryo, I was awestruck by the mechanics, development, respiration, nutrition, exercise (yes), and precise, timely changes during and after the incubation process. Moved to somehow express my discoveries, I created (among many others) these eight studies. They are just the skin of the deeper, flesh and bone metaphors revealed in incubation and hatching. Hatching continues to be, for me, a model of positive changes in my own life.
