Christmas Rose

This image of heliboris, blooming in its season (winter) is about opposites: opportunity in adversity, an insulating blanket of snow made of ice, iridescent green turning to coppery red when viewed from certain angles, warm Kitakata paper and cool, gray cotton. Because this pattern of reversals is not uncommon to the difficult yet rich and lasting aspects of life, I relate to this peculiar and beautiful winter-blooming flower.
