Cleistogamic

Viola Sorroria is cleistogamic. It boasts beautiful, infertile blossoms on graceful stems while its plain looking, fertile "blossoms" are hidden beneath the leaves. It is perhaps the only species in the entire plant kingdom that reproduces this way.

As the unseen part possesses the power to reproduce, one might question the purpose and value of the showy flowers. This is a mystery, but consider how this violet is like (or unlike) humanity and other kingdoms.
