imagining summer in spring

imagining summer in spring
In my spring art log I recorded these words: "Yesterday, I journeyed up the lake on stand-up paddleboard. It was the first day of the year that felt warm enough for shorts. Today, with the inspiration still fresh, I painted the sun breaking through firs along the northwest Offut Lake shore. I used reference photos from yesterdays paddle. I did not include the leafless deciduous trees because they are cooler and lighter in foreground (would have to negative paint, use resist, or paint in gouache), and because they lock the painting into winter (one season). Bottom line - I wanted to paint the sun. The sun felt so amazing and made everything sparkle. The sun felt like all the colors and all the warmth of summer, even though the water was icy cold as it occasionally splashed up onto my bare feet." Qor watercolor paints on Canson 140 lb. 9 x 12 inch paper. Image area is approximately 8.5 x 11.5 with white border surrounding. Artwork is signed at right bottom.'
